One road, Victoria Avenue, leads in, and the harbor and the Navy base hem the neighborhood in, so the beach stays quieter than most. It gets busiest from fall through winter.
It picks up some south swell too, but west and northwest winter swells bring its best days.
La Jenelle takes its name from a cruise liner that ran aground here in 1970; what is left of the hull lies buried in the south jetty.
